Florence Pugh heeft de perfecte reactie op mannen die haar body shamen voor het dragen van een doorschijnende jurk

Body-shaming: het is tegenwoordig nog steeds een groot probleem. Vooral social media-kanalen maken het makkelijk om zomaar een negatieve reactie over iemand achter te laten. Celebrities hebben er dagelijks mee te maken en nu is het niemand minder dan Florence Pugh die slachtoffer is geworden van body-shaming. Toch laat de actrice het er niet bij, want ze heeft de perfecte reactie op mannen die haar body shamen voor het dragen van een doorschijnende jurk.

Misschien vraag je je af wie Florence Pugh is. Laat ons je even bijpraten, want deze 26-jarige actrice is iemand die je echt wilt kennen. Zo speelde Florence in films als Don’t Worry Darling, Black Widow en Little Women en zal ze in 2023 ook te zien zijn in Dune: part II. Afgelopen vrijdag was de jonge actrice aanwezig bij de haute couture-show van Valentino in Rome en hier droeg ze een prachtige roze tule jurk.

In een van haar beste looks tot nu toe liet de 26-jarige actrice alleen iets meer zien dan sommige mensen gewend zijn. Zo droeg Florence Pugh geen bh onder haar jurk, waardoor haar tepels waren te zien. Niet veel later plaatste Florence verschillende foto’s van haar look op Instagram, waarop ze massaal negatieve reacties ontving.

Body-shaming

In een vervolgpost liet de Britse ster weten dat ze walgelijke opmerkingen ontving van “vulgaire mannen”. Die vonden het namelijk gepast om over haar lichaam te praten en hoe ze eruit zag in de jurk. Zo schrijft de actrice: “Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it. Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing. I was excited to wear it, not a wink of me was nervous. I wasn’t before, during or even now after.”

Florence voegt toe: “What’s been interesting to watch, and witness is just how easy it is for men to totally destroy a woman’s body, publicly, proudly, for everyone to see. You even do it with your job titles and work emails in your bio..? What’s worrying is just how vulgar some of you men can be. Thankfully, I’ve come to terms with the intricacies of my body that make me, me. I’m happy with all of the ‘flaws’ that I couldn’t bear to look at when I was 14. So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my’ tiny tits’ or how I should be embarrassed by being so ‘flat chested’. I’ve lived in my body for a long time. I’m fully aware of my breast size and am not scared of it.”

Zelfvertrouwen

Florence legt vervolgens uit dat ze “dankbaar” is om te zijn opgegroeid in een huishouden met “zeer sterke, krachtige, curvy vrouwen”. “We were raised to find power in the creases of our body. To be loud about being comfortable. It has always been my mission in this industry to say ‘fuck it and fuck that’ whenever anyone expects my body to morph into an opinion of what’s hot or sexually attractive. I wore that dress because I know. If being loudly abusive towards women publicly in 2022 is so easy for you, then the answer is that it is you who doesn’t know,” schrijft Florence Pugh.
