‘De Netflix-docu ‘Scouts Honor’ onthult een van de grootste seksueel misbruik schandalen in Amerika

Netflix staat vol met true crime documentaires. Deze gaan in veel gevallen over één zaak, maar de nieuwste Netflix-docu ‘Scouts Honor’ brengt een van de grootste seksueel misbruik schandalen in Amerika aan het licht.

‘Scouts Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America’

De Netflix-docu ‘Scouts Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America’, die op 6 september is uitgekomen, onderzoekt een van de grootste schandalen over seksueel misbruik van kinderen. Een van de grootste jongerenorganisaties in de VS – met meer dan 700.000 leden – probeerde namelijk een van de grootste seksueel misbruik schandalen in de geschiedenis te verdoezelen.

Deze nieuwe documentaire bevat exclusieve interviews met overlevenden en ex-werknemers over deze vreselijke voorvallen. Sinds Michael Johnson, een voormalige jeugd van de Boy Scouts, naar buiten kwam over hoe de jongerengroep systematisch duizenden gevallen van seksueel misbruik van kinderen verdoezelde stroomde de verhalen binnen. Dit resulteerde in ruim 82.000 klachten over seksueel misbruik bij de Scouting.

‘Scouts Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America’ lijkt er flink in te hakken bij kijkers. Ze gaan op dit moment namelijk massaal naar social media op de documentaire te bespreken. Zo schrijft een kijker: “Another recommendation for something true crime related is the Scouts Honor documentary on Netflix. The lack of safeguarding and care for these young boys, being ignored by the authorities and superiors is truly shocking and horrific. The US system failed the victims.”
